Tahkeem launches 6th batch in commercial arbitration
Publish Date :The Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre "Tahkeem" has announced the launch of the sixth batch of the training programme "Professional Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration," in collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Sharjah.
The programme will commence on October 5th until November 10th, 2024. It targets professionals working in the legal, engineering, and financial fields.
The Professional Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration programme aims to develop participants' skills and provide them with knowledge of the principles, procedures, and types of arbitration in the legal, engineering, and financial sectors by focusing on both academic and practical aspects.
Dr. Ahmed Saleh Al-Ajlah, Director of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, stated, “Through organising the Professional Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration programme, we seek to develop and enhance the practical and professional capabilities of the participants, equipping them with the scientific and practical experience and tools that help them enter the job market. This reflects the vital role of arbitration in ensuring economic stability and enhancing the services provided to the business sector in the country.”
Al-Ajlah added, "Over the past five batches, the Sharjah Arbitration Centre has successfully trained and qualified secretaries to become experienced arbitrators in the field of arbitration. They have gained sufficient knowledge of arbitration procedures, standards, and tools in a professionally developed manner that mirrors global rules and standards, benefiting all members of society. More than 85 trainees have been trained since the launch of the first diploma course to date."
Dr. Asmaa Nasiri, Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Sharjah, stated that the centre, in collaboration with the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, organises several qualification and training programmes. These programmes aim to enhance the personal and cognitive skills of the participants and equip them with the necessary skills in various fields, including legal, engineering, and finance.
Nasiri added, "The programme includes several courses and lectures delivered by several professors and experts over two months on topics such as the principles of the arbitration system, its types, advantages, sources, and various elements. The program will also cover other topics, including the procedures for conducting arbitration cases, the interpretation and correction of rulings, arbitration in engineering and financial disputes, as well as the mechanism for enforcing rulings and mock arbitration sessions to present the participants' projects."
The programme consists of 15 different courses that introduce participants to arbitration, the principles and elements of arbitration, the procedures for conducting arbitration cases, and the means of evidence before the arbitration panel, along with the enforcement procedures according to relevant international agreements. Other courses will provide participants with the personal and substantive skills needed by an arbitrator in managing a case.
Additionally, the diploma focuses on familiarising trainees with the types of arbitration, its sources, advantages and disadvantages, and its elements, alongside introducing the initial procedures followed in arbitration disputes, the progression of these procedures to their conclusion, as well as how to annul and enforce an arbitration ruling and the personal and substantive skills required of an arbitrator.
